Varanasi 2016
Banaras 2016. I found a small room in an old building near a very happening ghat. The ghats on the bank of Ganga was a visual I craved for, during my research. It looked like another world. A world where people think of and live, just the present. The lives and routines feel age old.
The bustling crowd during Gangaarti, and the sudden calm after it ends. Sipping Chai, staring into shimmering Ganga, making conversations with strangers who have stories to tell. Moreover, it is a satisfaction to buy a cup of tea for the Babas. Looking at how they live life is mesmerising.
Varanasi during nights took me a couple of centuries back. The nooks and corners are like reading an exciting book.
There is something about historic structures that I love, that are now converted to saree factories, temples, pan shops, shops that sell spiritual souvenirs. People are so incredibly hospitable that they take offence if you refuse the snack they offer. I spent time, getting to know the young boatmen .
Varanasi was an indulgence. The peace is addictive. I will definitely go back there.
